HOW TO BUILD A DUBBER |
|||||
| A Dubber is built using the "stitch and glue" method. Plywood parts are cut to shape and "stitched" together temporally with small pieces of copper wire. Then the inside seams are "glued" together with an epoxy putty. The outside copper wires and then cut off and the outside seams are then fiberglassed with fiberglass cloth and epoxy. This completes the hull structure. | The Dubbers are built with inexpensive 1/8" Luan doorskin plywood (or marine grade if you want). This wood is light and flexible to make the tight curves. 2 sheets are required for the Little and 3 sheets for the Bigger Dubber. The How to Build Manual describes the process in detail but the following sequence shows the basic steps of how its done: | ||||

| The plywood pieces are cut out. There are 5 pieces for a Little Dubber: bottom panel, 2 frames (identical) and 2 side panels (identical). The frames are wire tied to the bottom panel. | |||||

| The ends are now bent up and stitched together. The 1/8" plywood will take this bend. The curves impart a great stiffness to the thin plywood. | |||||

The side panels are then stitched on. This finishes the hull "in wire". |
